Science Notebook:

Your Science notebook is more than a notebook in which to take notes. It is a way of collecting and processing information.

  • Notebooks are to be kept in the classroom at ALL times unless I tell you otherwise.

  • Pages are numbered sequentially. Do not remove any pages. Both the right and left pages should be numbered. It is important that all of us have the same information on the same pages.

  • The first pages are reserved for a table of contents, and instructions.

  • You will use color to help organize your information.

  • Handouts, foldables, vocabulary, and other papers should be glued, taped, or stapled in your journal.

  • Notebooks will be graded periodically. I will be looking for a table of contents, drawings, headings, understanding of lesson concepts, vocabulary, glued in assignments and overall neatness/organization.

Make-up Work:

If your child is absent I will have their make-up work for them when they return to class. The day your child is absent his/her assignments will be put into a day specific folder where he/she can grab their missed assignments/notes etc..It will be the responsibility of the student to check the folder for his/her make-up work upon their return to class. When make-up work is completed the student is to turn it into me. It will be the responsibility of the student to remember to turn in their completed make-up work. I will NOT ask the student for work.

Late Work

Per NISD Policy, students can turn in work late one day and receive a 70.  After one day, the grade will be a zero.

Cell Phones/ Electronic Equipment/ Toys

No cell phones, tablets, or other electronic devices will be allowed in my classroom. Failure to comply with this rule will result in discipline in accordance with district and campus policies.

Restroom Breaks:

One restroom pass will be given for each semester that allows 10 trips to the restroom. This cuts down on excessive interruptions during class and abuse of leaving class. I want your child to be in the classroom as much as possible so that they will not miss any valuable material.

Participation Grades:

Participation is a vital part of a science classroom. We work in groups and with lab partners. In order to be successful in my class everyone must participate in and be prepared for discussions, labs, activities, group projects, etc. I will give weekly participation grades. Points are deducted for tardiness, off task behaviors, talking, sleeping, chewing gum, and not having supplies for class.
