Nederland, TX – Nederland ISD is proud to announce the new Nederland High School Director of Secondary Music Education. With Greg Rose retiring it lead to the promotion of Gary Janecek to the Nederland High School Director of Secondary Music Education. Janecek has been with Nederland ISD for 28 years and worked side-by-side with Mr. Rose for 23 of those 28 years.
“It’s been a wonderful time here at Nederland, one of my favorite memories is having people like Gary right here beside me. I’ve been really fortunate to have people around me who were hard-working and professional and still my friends. I’ve had year after year of great memories,” said Greg Rose.
Janecek will be only the fifth band director in the last sixty-five years. He stated “I’m both excited and honored to have been chosen. I plan to maintain a high level of excellence and there’s nothing wrong with shooting high than you already are.” He went on to say, “There aren’t many places you can go that supports their band and Nederland is a community that supports all areas including the band.”
Rose and Janecek shared they have a family history together beyond the 23 years they have worked side by side as their fathers were both band directors who judged one another in band contests.
Nederland ISD & Helena Park Elementary School had an exciting day with many special guests including Governor, Greg Abbott; Texas Education Agency Commissioner, Mike Morath; Dr. Jane Foley with the Milken Educator Awards, NISD School Board and many local dignitaries. The academic accomplishments of the school were celebrated and 4th grade teacher, Jenna Dean, received the district’s first $25,000 Milken Educator Award.
